Who We Are

About Lesedi Bathong

Lesedi Bathong — meaning "Light to the People" in Sesotho — was founded with one purpose: to carry light into the lives of those who live in darkness. We are a registered South African non-profit organisation working in the heart of the Free State, committed to the care of vulnerable children, the healing of broken lives, and the restoration of dignity to every person we serve.

What We Do

Principal Objectives

Our work is built on seven core pillars, each addressing a critical need in the communities we serve.

Care for Vulnerable Children

Every child deserves safety, love, and a future. We identify and support at-risk children through direct care, shelter assistance, and community placement, ensuring no child faces hardship alone.

Healing & Counselling

Trauma leaves deep marks. Our trained counsellors walk alongside individuals and families through grief, abuse recovery, and emotional restoration — providing a safe space to heal.

Rescue & Care

We respond urgently to individuals in crisis — those trapped in abuse, dangerous living conditions, or acute vulnerability — providing immediate intervention, safe shelter, and essential support.

Poverty Relief

Hunger and poverty strip away dignity. We deliver food parcels, essential supplies, and connect families with resources and social services to alleviate immediate need and build long-term stability.

Rehabilitation

Restoration is possible. We support individuals recovering from addiction, substance abuse, and destructive cycles, offering structured programmes that rebuild lives from the ground up.

Education

Education is the strongest light against poverty. We provide learning support, school readiness programmes, and access to educational resources — empowering children and youth to reach their full potential.

Trauma Recovery Circle

Trauma Recovery Circle

Weekly group counselling sessions for survivors of abuse and loss, led by trained volunteers in a safe, confidential setting.

Bright Futures Tutoring
Youth

Bright Futures Tutoring

After-school academic support for primary and high school learners, with a focus on literacy, numeracy, and life skills.

Community Awareness Campaign
Prevention

Community Awareness Campaign

Outreach drives covering substance abuse prevention, gender-based violence awareness, and child safety education across local schools and churches.

Rehabilitation
